Jack Charles (Patrick) is a small-time crook who is hoping for one last big deal to make his fortune.
Until, one day, his daughter turns up on his doorstep. She had been in Bigelow Hall, a Childrenīs Home, but
broke out to escape the abusive staff who ran it. Jack finds himself driving halfway across America with two
squabbling kids in the backseat, after rescuing his young son, Eddie from the authorities. Jack is now a
fugitive accused of kidnapping his own children, whom he never really wanted with him in the first place!
He is persuaded by journalist Kathleen Mercer, to help her expose the corrupt foster-care system. Jack learns
to love his children and once more be their father.
