I was just watching "King Solomon's Mines" on Hallmark Movie Channel and felt a great sense of loss. I lost my aunt and her daughter to Pancreatic Cancer not long after Patrick lost his battle to the disease. My condolences still to his wife, family and friends. Time heals the wound of a loss so we can go on living our lives, but the scar still has its moments of aching when the pain of that loss is still felt just as deeply as the moment of the loss.

TuOk. Here is it, August of 2011. Patrick has been gone for nearly 2 years. I have been a huge fan of his since North and South, when I was a little girl. But recently, out of nowhere, I had a dream about him. It wasn't anything inappropriate. He just simply appeared in one of my dreams. When I woke up, I wondered why he just "showed up" in my subconscience...So I went on to You be and watched his last interview with Barbara Walters...I found it intruiging. So I went further. I went to the library and took out "The Time of My Life."
Now that I have finished the book, I know why Patrick showed up in my dream...I'm not a totally spiritual person, but I do feel that human beings are all connected on some higher level.
Recently I've been struggling with 3 incredibly stressful and traumatic things. My son was diagnosed with Autism, my husband suffers from grand mal epileptic seizures and my mother-in-law was just put into an assisted living facility because of early onset Altzheimers....One could say I have a lot on my plate...My patience, perseverence and mental health has been tested to it's limit this summer....And Patrick stepped in just in time.
When I read about the struggles he had in his life and how elegantly he pushed through it all, that was it for me. Patrick became my pillar of strength, even from the grave.
His devotion to Lisa, his incredible outlook on life and love, his passionate love of so many different things (acting, animals, dancing, motorcycles, flying) were all inspirational to me. I think the thing the quote that resonated the most with me was in his interview with Barbara Walters. In response to headlines that Patrick is "winning the battle with cancer," he said, "I'm not winning the battle with anything. What winning is to me is not giving up. Winning is, whatever is thrown at me, I can take it. And I can keep going. Get busy living or get busy dying."
I cannot tell you what that statement did for my life. I was sitting here having a pity party for myself. And then I heard that. And I listened as Patrick described how he worked through tremendous pain. Not just when he cancer, but through his entire career--with all of his injuries. He was literally the most perseverant and inspirational, yet REAL person that I have ever *encountered* in my lifetime.
I think if Lisa often. After reading the book, I feel like Patrick and Lisa are my best friends. It pains me that Patrick will never know how much he has meant to my life. But maybe somehow I can let Lisa know. Afterall, as Patrick describes her, she was his backbone and lifeline throughout it all. I don't know how she lives without him. That in and of itself is inspirational....

My very dear friend of 45 years, Helen passed away in April from cancer...I was lucky enough to be able to spend nearly a month with her as she went through her journey..we shared a love of Patrick's work and she gave me a copy of 'One Last Dance' to bring home with me...I have just finished watching it again and wanted to say that it is such a powerful expression of love and friendship and I am honoured to have received such a special gift which I will enjoy and cherish.

I'm not here here to post condolence.. I am a 33 years old with 2 daughters.. I have a son on the the way.. My first.. I am happy.. I just want someone to know how I feel.. I have respect for Patrick.. Not as a man.. I don't know him.. As a father and fellow man.. An actor... well yes.. I first watched "ghost" in my early days.. with my mum.. We even had teenagers in the back row of the theatre playing up.. expecting some sort of spiritual/thriller/poltergeist movie.. That it was not.. GHOST was a profound movie for me. Even life changing somehow..? I came here just to let like minded people know that some movie's.. Some actors.. Some people... Patrick Swayze. Leave us from this world to the next.. With something more than a movie..actors etc.. A sense of being.. A moral code.. A will to be more than we are.. TOO LOVE MORE THAN WE ARE.. & EVER WILL BE.. I am here to pay a sense of respect..
